Unable to create topics under categories

I just purchased this forum plugin as I also use UM and want a forum that embeds well with it. I have created forums and categories.

  1. The categories would be better of listed underneath the forum they are assigned to rather than looking more like tags next to the forum title. This would make it clearer they are different categories to post topics under.
  2. The bigger problem - when clicking on a category the button to create a topic does not appear. The new topic button appears when clicking on the forum but does not appear when clicking on a category linked to that forum. This prevents users from creating topics under specific categories.

I am using the UM Theme. I have an admin account.
